Or, you you can continue a little further along the B5152 and turn right into the forest then follow a gravel road about half a mile to a LARGE forest glade car park. Alternatively, drive about a mile further along the B5152 until you reach the crossroads. Turn left immediately after the crossroads into the car park. There is a shop and a restaurant. This restaurant tends to be quieter and not overrun with cyclists. Originally part of the Forest of Macra in Mondrum, Delamere forest still covers some 4000 acres and is criss-crossed with paths. The highest point is Eddisbury Hill, site of a Saxon fortress with several tumuli. Adequate parking in the forest glade. Miles of pathways to walk (picture left). |
