Return to SatCure index page Vintage Radio Museum in Chester, England You may be interested in a tiny museum which is located in the Roman town of Chester. I have copied, below, the text of the museum brochure for your information. I have no connection with this museum but I did visit it with my three boys who found it fascinating. If anybody is planning to visit England and would like to go to Chester, I'm sure that I could help to make the arrangements. Since I am self-employed I could probably act as chauffeur for up to four passengers. The nearest airport is Manchester which is about 40 minutes drive from where I live. Chester is also about 40 minutes drive from here. I live in the historic town of Sandbach in Cheshire. Sandbach has stone crosses in the market place which date back around 1,300 years! There's plenty to see around here :o). ON THE AIR - THE BROADCASTING MUSEUM (It's the Cat's Whiskers!) COME WITH US ON A FASCINATING JOURNEY THROUGH TIME Hidden away on the historic Chester Rows, only a few yards from the bustle of the city centre, is a doorway into another world. From the atmospheric Vintage Sound Shop, where dance band music plays from the gleaming mahogany gramophones and bakelite radios, you can step back to the beginning of the century. As you enter the Museum you will start a journey of discovery that leads from the experiments of Marconi to pocket colour TV. This exciting new attraction includes a unique collection of radio and television bygones, in period settings by a leading TV designer. The development of broadcasting is presented against the background of our changing society, using an ingenious blend of old and new technology. Whether you are eight or eighty, 'On The Air' is a fascinating experience that everyone will enjoy. As well as enjoying the Museum you can browse in the unique Vintage Sound Shop. A SOUND INVESTMENT At this world famous centre for vintage sound enthusiasts you have the opportunity to buy a genuine fully restored vintage radio or gramophone that will give pleasure to the eye as well as to the ear - an heirloom from the twentieth century. You can even have your own wireless set restored at the Museum workshop.
