Power supply whistles in standby

Replace DP13 (a 3v9 zener diode).

Dead (PSU won't start up. May be intermittent):

CP08 (220µF/25v)
TP12 BUT11A or similar
DP21 3v9 400mW
DP13 3v9 1w3
IP01 UC3842.

(Available as SATKIT 11)

No video signal

Check LNB connection. Check "F" connector socket is connected to the main board.
If no 14v on LV15 next to tuner &endash; replace PNP transistors TP71 (and sometimes TP73) at the front of the power supply (use FXT749).
Possibly CP69 (1,000uF, 25V), DP69 (BA158) and DP72 (1N4007).

Otherwise:

Replace surface mount I.C. beneath the tuner (use one from an old SRB1 (BSB receiver). Remove the tuner daughter board and resolder dry joints on the underside. Replace this daughter board with one from an SRB1.

Standby light OK but no lights or functions when not in standby

No 5v on LV14 next to tuner &endash; replace TP77. Clean decoder connectors.

No LNB voltage

Check "F" connector joint. Check large blue disc PTC resistor RP63.

TP64 switches 13/17v, controlled by TP75, TP67 from pin 11 of SMD I.C. beneath the tuner section. If pin 11 track o/c then LNB voltage stays 13v.

LNB voltage more than 20 volts

Replace DP64 7.5 v zener (6v8 is OK).

Sparkly pictures (both black and white sparklies)

Replace "MN" 4 legged SMD beneath tuner next to "F" connector with "C1C" device from a Hitachi BF9 tuner.

Otherwise replace tuner inner module.
